What exactly is Derby 101?
Derby 101 is designed for all levels of skaters, from complete newbies to experienced skaters. In the Derby 101 training course you will learn how to skate, how to use proper techniques for stopping and starting, falls and slides, crossovers, various dry land training techniques, one footed skating and much more including basic blocking and hitting techniques. This course is fun and challenging for all levels of skaters and is designed to teach you the basics of derby and help you stay safe.
When Can I Start Derby 101?
A new session of the Derby 101 course will be starting in September 2017 and will run for 10 weeks at the Derby Community Centre in Kilsyth. This allows you time to work on your skating skills and roller derby skills with a small group. This will help you to be more prepared to take the written and practical exam that qualify you to play derby.
How Much Does Derby 101 Course Cost?
- $30 for the mandatory Skaters Insurance, $70 for the course.
- Your Health Card.
Derby 101 Exam

After the course, you can then become a Regular Member available to be drafted onto our team. Regular members are expected to pay league dues every month ($45/month) and maintain valid insurance. Regular Skater Insurance coverage costs $50 for the year (Jan-Dec).
